Mental Health And Global Melting Pot

We understand that there is an absolute link between mental illness and homelessness. Mental illness can be the cause

of homelessness and vice versa, homelessness can lead to depression and more severe mental and physical illness.

Our own Managing Director can testify from her few year’s personal experience of homelessness and depression, of how the current system supplies short term sticking plasters without long term cures. She will tell you that what she craved for was to feel that she was wanted by society, for her talents to be recognised and used to benefit others. Whilst there is counselling available (albeit with a long waiting time) there is currently little practical assistance.

Our aim is to provide that practical help by mobilising volunteer specialists to identify and mentor individuals’ talents giving them a raison d’etre. Our organisation aims to reduce the causes in two ways.

Firstly, by providing a reason for self-esteem via our training programmes, we believe this will enhance individual’s self-reliance and assist them to overcome their own problems.

Secondly, by providing accommodation that they have had an input in obtaining and creating, this will alleviate the stress associated with being homeless. Our project to acquire dilapidated property and refurbish to provide individual apartments for homeless individuals at an affordable level is a unique concept as the work on the properties will be undertaken by the homeless themselves (supervised by qualified tradesmen). This will not only give them “ownership” Our organisation aims to reduce the causes in two ways of the projects, but will provide them with employment training and qualifications enabling them to re-integrate into society. All properties will be supported by medical and social services to sustain rehabilitation. We anticipate the project will be self-funding.
